A person’s skills can only go as far as their composure goes during an emergency. When we find ourselves in critical situations, remaining in charge of the situation can shape our survival rate.
Here is how you should respond in critical situations.
- Remain calm.
A person may have passed all tests in the classroom but in the real world, the test for survival is the only one that matters. Critical situations can easily go out of hand and beyond the chaos, a calm mind is needed to proceed with the right action. - Observe the environment.
Pay attention to what is happening around you. Has the threat passed already or is your location still unsafe? Absorb all the important details in the environment such as the casualties and the resources available. - Prioritize and know what should happen first.
While saving everyone is the ultimate goal, we should be realistic and prioritize what we can do based on what is available. Move to a safer location and triage the needed help.
